Interview Preparation

A vital part of the independent school admissions process is the interview. With much of the preparation being focused on written or computerised exams, interviews are often forgotten. Despite this, only 50% of students are successful in passing the interview stage.

What are the School Interviews?

In school interviews, students are likely to sit down with a staff member and answer a series of questions. In these discussions, they are evaluated on their behaviour, etiquette, interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, reasoning, creativity and eloquence. They are often asked about their families, achievements, passions, likes and dislikes. They may be asked to comment on current events, artworks or literature. Abstract questions such as “how would you explain the colour yellow to a blind person?” are included to discover how the student reacts to unexpected or unconventional prompts.
