Teaching Experience

After studying for a degree in Modern Languages at Oxford University, I took a PGCE in Secondary Modern Languages Teaching at the UCL Institute of Education. I have worked in 4 secondary London comprehensives, including my training and professional experience.

My real-world experience in the classroom taught me many valuable lessons. For example, I became more aware of how each student learns differently, how different age groups respond to different activities and instructions, and how to structure information and knowledge to allow students to feel in control of their own learning. It became very clear to me that students must feel motivated and engaged for long-lasting learning to take place. I make sure to connect with pupils on a personal level to ensure they are relaxed and engaged. I also endeavour to co-create a learning plan with the students; this way, they are confident about where they are heading and how they will get there.

I have also taught English as a foreign language in France and worked in two French lycées during my year abroad as an English teacher.

I am a calm, empathetic and personable tutor with several years of experience working in schools and education. I have worked in teaching for the past four years, alongside working as a freelance photographer. I live in East London and balance teaching with my childcare commitments. I enjoy reading and cinema, two interests which I explore when teaching the Humanities to bring the subjects to life.
